Amurrio Ferrocarril y Equipos S.A. has designed, manufactured and supplied all the turnouts and track devices for the renovation of Constitución station, on line C of the Buenos Aires subway, the popular “Subte”.
Constitución station is the busiest station in Buenos Aires, with a daily traffic of 170,000 passengers. It was inaugurated in 1934, although the track and sleeper infrastructure was modernized in the 1990s.
The turnouts supplied by Amurrio allow higher working speeds, while improving safety and reducing maintenance requirements.
The renewal of the switchgear has been a major logistical challenge, which, among other difficulties, has made it necessary to introduce all the equipment and components of the turnouts through ventilation channels, and to work in the months of January and February (summer in Argentina), when traffic is lower.
The installation of the turnouts has been carried out by UTE Herso Ferromel, under the supervision of SBASE (Subterráneo de Buenos Aires S.E.), in close collaboration with the technical department of Amurrio Ferrocarril.
