Interview with Jon de Lapatza, Director of Amurrio Ferrocarril y Equipos, S.A., on “Made in Basque Country”
‘Made in Basque Country’, a business program of Radio Euskadi, recently echoed the contract that the Consorcio de Ferrocarril Central de Uruguay has awarded to Amurrio Ferrocarril y Equipos for the supply of modern railway equipment for the ‘Ferrocarril Central’ project. Specifically, AMUFER will manufacture 124 turnouts for this railway line that will link the center of the Latin American country with the port of Montevideo.
To give an account of all this, Dani Álvarez, director of Boulevard, interviewed Jon de Lapatza, director of AMUFER, on Thursday, June 25, who celebrated the “pride” that it means for a factory like the one in Amurrio to have won the trust of the Uruguayan government. “If we are able to get this type of contract, it is because of all the people who make up the company and who have been able to do the things we propose and which have been valued by our customers,” De Lapatza stressed.
The company’s head then described the nature of the contract, which will run for thirteen months starting in October. “We are going to supply 124 turnouts for the renovation of a 274-kilometer railway section between the city of Paso de los Toros, in central Uruguay, and the Port of Montevideo, in the south. It is a truly ambitious project because the government itself considers it vital for the future of the country’s economy, whose GDP will consequently grow by 2.5% in the coming years and generate some 10,000 jobs”.
In the final part of the interview, De Lapatza provided his vision of the current situation and some keys that, in his opinion, are necessary to return to the path of growth as soon as possible. “In such an exceptional situation, full of uncertainty and fear, the only way to be able to manage things is to know more precisely than ever what is happening, how it is happening and what we can do,” he said.
