Amurrio, August 27th. The Minister of Public Works, Ana Pastor, visited today the facilities of Amurrio Ferrocarril y Equipos, S.A. during the trip she is making through the Basque Country to know the state of the works of the High Speed Train.
Ana Pastor, together with the Secretary of State for Infrastructures, Transport and Housing, Julio Gómez Pomar, the Government Delegate in the Basque Country, Carlos Urquijo, and the General Manager of Adif, Javier Gallego López, was received and accompanied on the visit to Amurrio by the President of the company, Josu de Lapatza and the General Manager of the company, Jon de Lapatza Benito.
The Minister and the other personalities took a guided tour of the company’s facilities, during which they were interested in various aspects of production and received detailed explanations of the particularities of the processes.
After the visit, Ana Pastor expressed her conviction that the works of the Basque High Speed Railway -the so-called Basque “Y” railway- will be finished in 2019, if the current rate of investment of the State in this project is maintained.
The Minister recalled that in this legislature the Government has invested more than 2,300 million euros in the HST, and that in the 2016 budget there is an allocation of 290 million, in addition to the fact that via the Quota another allocation of more than 300 million euros is foreseen to finance the works being carried out by the Basque Government in Gipuzkoa.
He added that as of today, the entire platform of the Basque “Y” that will join the three capitals is “under construction or awarded” and that this infrastructure “cannot be reversed”. “Everything is in conditions for the Basque ‘Y’ to be finished in 2019,” he stressed.
Amurrio Ferrocarril y Equipos provides its know-how in the design and manufacture of turnouts and crossings for the railway sector, a sector in which it occupies a reference position in the international concert.
Founded in 1880, Amurrio currently employs 157 people and exports around 60% of its production. It closed 2014 with a turnover of around 30 million euros.
